Orange Environment, Inc. today learned of the release of a second Sullivan County casino DEIS, for the Stockbridge-Munsee Casino Project. Comments are due by March 28, 2005.
Orange Environment President Michael R. Edelstein, Ph.D., commented:
“This new impact statement becomes available for review while we await the BIA’s determination on the adequacy of the Mohawk Final Environmental Impact Statement. OEI challenged the adequacy of that impact statement’s treatment of cumulative impacts particularly as they will affect Orange County traffic and air pollution. OEI called for either a supplemental impact statement or administrative hearings to address the inadequacy of the Mohawk impact review. Until the BIA’s Record of Decision is released, we will not know if we were heard.
OEI has requested this new DEIS. We will be looking closely at how such questions have been addressed in the Stockbridge-Munsee DEIS, which also must now consider five casinos and other regional growth cumulatively and which must examine regional impacts, including those to Orange County. OEI will file as an interested party in the Stockbridge-Munsee Casino permit application, as it has previously did in the Mohawk application.”
