Progress on Saving the Caves at Lookout Mountain!

The Lookout Mountain sacred caves date back 12,500 years to the ice age. The earliest confirmed site of human habitation in the northern U.S., the caves are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town of Goshen has passed a resolution authorizing the supervisor to negotiate the purchase of Orange County lands containing Lookout Mountain (Dutchess Quarry). The town of Goshen’s interest in purchasing these archeological lands indicates a commitment to preservation.
